Funeral March

Region:
Poland
Style:
Romantic
Composer:
Chopin, Frederick

“Funeral March” is an extremely unique arrangement of a tune your students will recognize. The music is dark and morbid. Technically, this piece requires fantastic reading from your students. Each part is required to read in multiple lines of music and play thick blocked chords and arpeggios. Guitar 1 is Level 9 while the others are Level 8. There are tons of dynamic markings written in by the composer. Pay specific attention to the accuracy of the dotted 8th to 16th note in main theme for ensemble. Cultural/Historical Context: Fredric Chopin was a Polish Romantic piano virtuoso. He only composed for the piano and became one of the most popular musicians of his time. Listen to this piece on piano and have your ensemble mimic the tone as close as possible.
