Dr. Robert Duke is the Marlene and Morton Meyerson Centennial Professor and Head of Music and Human Learning at The University of Texas at Austin where he is University Distinguished Teaching Professor, Elizabeth Shatto Massey Distinguished Fellow in Teacher Education, and Director of the Center for Music Learning. He is also professor of psychology at the Colburn Conservatory in Los Angeles.
In this video, Dr. Duke discusses the importance of goal-directed learning. Often times, when we set goals for students the end result may be clear in the mind of the teacher, but not in the mind of the student. As we set up solvable problems for our students to tackle, it is crucial that students have a very clear image of the musical and technical goals that we want them to achieve and why these goals are important.
