Waltz

Waltz is a level 5 piece that introduces playing two voices at the same time. Parts 1 and 3 serve melodic roles at different points in the piece. Part 2 plays the role of accompaniment. As always, accent, dynamics, phrasing and tone are the most important aspects of the piece when teaching. The guitar is unique in that is able to play music that involves more than one line at a time. The first step in learning to play multi-linear music is to play bass and melody notes simultaneously and in close succession to one another. We approach teaching two voice music by playing slow moving bass notes with p while playing melodic lines and accompaniment figures by alternating i and m.
